Since 2018 the innovation factory programme has been identifying, supporting, and developing digital innovations with positive impact towards the Sustainable Development Goals by promoting global partnerships and facilitating tech transfers in Ethiopia, Ghana, Indonesia, Mexico and Senegal. Sadly, the programme is ending end of August 2022.

Let’s have a look at some of the highlights of our activities!

  • Bootcamp in 2019

The Digital Innovation Bootcamps were 3-day events for early-stage innovators who were keen on developing a sustainable business model around their digital innovation ideas. Innovators were primarily identified working on solutions in the three main topics gender equality, climate and environment, and educational tech. It was a hands-on learning experience with expert coaching, design thinking techniques as well as personal mentoring and feedback on the digital innovation and business plans.

  • Accelerator programme 2019-21

The accelerator programme took place in Ethiopia, Ghana, Indonesia, Mexico and Senegal in 2019-21. During the call for applications, teams and start-ups could apply with digital innovations on the three predefined topics of Climate Action, Gender Equality, and Educational Tech. In total 46 start-ups were then selected to participate in the 6-months Digital Innovation Accelerator Programme. At the end of the programme the teams were asked to submit their improved documents, which were then evaluated by a jury consisting of 3 experts per country. The 12 winning teams received an additional support in form of tailored support packages.

  • Innovation challenges 2021-22

The three Innovation Challenges took place in Indonesia, Ghana, and Mexico in 2021-22. During the call for applications, teams and startups could apply with digital innovations on the three predefined topics of Urban Sustainability in Indonesia, Financial Inclusion in Ghana, and Green Recovery in Mexico. A jury consisting of 3 jurors per country then evaluated the submitted applications and selected a total of 3 startups per country, which received a further 3 months of support during the Digital Innovation Launcher Programme.

A big thank you to all who have accompanied us on this journey, who have inspired us and who created positive impact with their ideas and solutions – and who are still doing so now! We wish all startups, all participants of our activities, and all partners all the best and much success with their next projects.
