Announcement: New Innovation Challenges in Ghana, Indonesia and Mexico to be launched in October/November

Meeting Innovation Factory

Digital innovations can substantially contribute to solving social and environmental challenges. Therefore, the Innovation Factory started the process for the Innovation Challenge focusing on solution-oriented ideas from social businesses.

The innovation challenge process has started in Indonesia, Mexico and Ghana. Early-stage innovators who have (ideas for) digital innovations and solutions addressing social and environmental challenges, have the opportunity to (further) develop and refine their ideas and digital solutions by developing prototypes and sustainable business models. The topics of the challenge also differ according to the circumstances of the countries. In Indonesia, digital innovations are being sought in the range of Climate Action & Air Pollution. Mexico’s call for digital solutions is about Social & Environmental Impact for Green Recovery.

The innovation challenge in Ghana is being implemented in cooperation with the „Ghana Federation for Disability“ (GFD) and looking for ideas and solutions to better „Financial inclusion for people with disabilities“. The special feature with it is that the innovation challenge takes place within the setup of a hackathon, where all participants gather to work together on developing innovative solutions.

Of course, the winners of the challenge do not go away empty-handed: the best ideas receive assistance in form of tailored support from the Innovation Factory. This should enable them to refine their ideas and prototypes and support them in (further) developing a viable business plan to launch their digital innovation for sustainability.

The program will run over three months and comprises a combination of group work, peer learning, and one-on-one mentorship. Participants can expect expert input, tailored coaching, practical design thinking techniques and feedback on their digital innovations and envisaged business models. While the programs in Mexico and Ghana are planned to take part in person on the ground, the support phase in Indonesia will be conducted virtually.

The tailored support includes four pillars in building a business:

  • Sustainable business plan: access tools to help you launch your sustainable business idea
  • Professional network: build a support network to assist with your digital innovation start up.
  • Customized coaching & mentoring: receive professional support from experienced entrepreneurship experts.
  • Peer learning: exchange with peers who similarly strive to generate socio-environmental impacts
